Program Notes
Open Source Economic Development: A new future for advancing regions in a global economy
This model guides us as we develop clusters of high performance businesses. We start by thinking of our economy as networks nested in other networks. Open Source Economic Development represents a dynamic new way to approach economic development in Northeast Ohio. It provides us a roadmap to our future.
The Universities Collaborative: Our Northeast Ohio knowledge network
The Universities Collaborative is an emerging network of regional Northeast Ohio colleges and universities. The Collaborative provides the foundation for building high performance, sustainable businesses in our region. Members include: Cleveland State University, The University of Akron, Kent State University, Case, Lorain County Community College and Youngstown State University.
The Business of Sustainability: Determining market value and opportunity
Sustainability provides a set of deep insights into the systems that support and guide our regional economy. Like liberty, justice and democracy, sustainability has no single meaning. The best way to learn about sustainability is to start the journey of discovering opportunity, creating wealth, and making connections.
Bridging the Gap: Universities’ place on the sustainability map of Northeast Ohio
EcoCity Cleveland, REI, and other partners have begun to develop an interactive network map of the relationships between these initiatives and other organizations and projects. The map can help us appreciate the current power of the regional sustainability network, how universities are fitting in, and our regional institutions can make greater contributions in the future.
Let's Trade! A marketplace bartering for resources and knowledge
Open Space Technology developed by Harrison Owen and now practiced internationally, is a process that invites and empowers groups of people to participate in self-organizing work on agendas the group selects. Everything the group produces is archived and used to evolve natural movement through the cycle of engagement: inquiry, community, collaboration, mobilization, and action. Open Space works because it engages people at the intersection of a group's passion, responsibility, and strengths.
Is Sustainability Sustainable?
Bruce Latimer, the Executive Director of the Cleveland Museum of Natural History is an expert in human evolution. Bruce will tell us the story of how millions of years of biological adaptations have influenced our thinking and our relationships..to our surroundings and to each other. His engaging insights into the dynamics of evolution and sustainability will help us become a global leader in sustainable development.
The SBC Foundation Civic Entrepreneur Award
REI is providing this award to an outstanding Northeast Ohio civic entrepreneur who is leading us in the global transformation of our economy. The recipient has one obligation: to pass the award forward in six months to another exemplary civic entrepreneur.
Case REI
Case Center for Regional Economic Issues (REI) is a leader in Open Source Economic Development an approach to build prosperity by building open collaborations, flexible networks, and clusters of high performance, sustainable businesses.
