The Northeast Ohio Trade and Economic Consortium (NEOTEC) is an economic development partnership formed to promote trade, business growth and economic opportunities throughout Northeast Ohio.
It was founded in February 1996 as a Joint Office of Economic Development (JOED) in accordance with Ohio Revised Code Section 307.07 by officials in six counties, which includes the counties of Columbiana, Mahoning, Portage, Stark, Summit and Trumbull. Ashtabula County became a member of JOED and NEOTEC in January 2002.
In 2000 NEOTEC incorporated as a 501c3 non-profit corporation. NEOTEC is governed by a 14-member board of trustees which are appointed by elected officials in member counties. Each county may also appoint 1 alternate trustee.
NEOTEC manages Foreign Trade Zone 181 and conducts regional economic development activities on behalf of the seven-county JOED.
NEOTEC goals, objectives and strategies include:
1. Serve as Administrator of FTZ 181 on behalf of the JOED
Promote the benefits of Foreign Trade Zone 181 to businesses within the region to enhance their competitive position in the global marketplace.
Promote the benefits of Foreign Trade Zone 181 and resources of Northeast Ohio on a national and international basis to improve the region's position and participation in the global economy.
2. Develop Northeast Ohio's logistics infrastructure resources into a seamless transportation system which offers time, cost and flexibility options to firms shipping to and from Northeast Ohio.
Work with businesses, logistics service providers, government and non profit entities to establish a Northeast Ohio Logistics Network.
Provide staff support for the Logistics Network in cooperation with partner agencies.
Establish and maintain Logistics Network pages and Logistics Forum within the NEOTEC web site.
Conduct an annual Logistics Conference and golf outing.
3. Work with entities within the region to improve the competitive position of the region and enhance the region's capability to support business.
