Civic entrepreneur Herb Crowther, freight carriers, logistics providers, transportation entrepreneurs, and economic development experts come together during a 90 minute interactive discussion about how supply chain and logistics technologies can drive economic development opportunities in Northeast Ohio. The purpose of the conversation is to raise the community's awareness of how global and lean manufacturing practices intensify economic threats and opportunities in our region. The discussion will brainstorm strategies for leveraging knowledge networks, technology and the region’s natural transportation advantages to drive job creation & economic development.
Panelists include representatives from:
- Penske Logistics Technology, Engineering & Quality (LTEQ) Center: Amy L. Ilyes, Director of LTEQ Center in Beachwood, directs engineers and analysts supporting Penske’s customer solution development, implementation and operational engineering activities. The Logistics Engineering team has also developed, acquired and implemented a variety of logistics modeling systems and tools in support of Penske’s services including fleet operations, transportation management, warehouse management and other logistics/ supply chain management functions. Amy holds M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Operations Research from Case Western Reserve University and a B.S. in Mathematics from John Carroll.
- Park Ohio/Integrated Logistics Services: Edward Crawford, Chairman and CEO. Integrated Logistics Services is a $600 million provider supply chain logistics services and a manufacturer of highly engineered products for industrial original equipment manufacturers. It has invested tens of millions of dollars on information technology that integrates real time diagnostic and shop floor consumption information to plan and manage the physical flow of components from the point of origin to the point of use.
- Mizar Technologies, LLC: Brian Davis, President; Mizar Technologies is provider of worldwide navigation and property tracking solutions. Mizar’s innovative technology is recognized by the Department of Defense with a Homeland Security award and research grants for its “alert container” tracking technology system. The integrated system is capable of collecting, storing and transmitting GPS data via satellite anywhere in the world. It is designed to be used with transportation assets such as shipping containers, trucks and railroad cars.
- Banyan Technology: Lance Healy, Co-founder and VP of Operations for Banyan Technology; Educational committee chairman of the NE Ohio Logistics Council, Founder of the Lorain County Manufacturing Council, Board Member of the Economic Development Committee for the City of Cleveland Workforce Development, and Chronic Entrepreneur. Banyan Technology streamlines the management process for Less-than-Truckload (LTL) and truckload freight for small to medium sized companies. Through a single interface, Banyan’s utilities eliminate up to 70% of administrative time spent on tasks related to sales, purchasing, dock management, warehousing, accounting, and customer service.
- Weatherhead School of Management: Ron Ballou, PhD?; Professor of Operations and Logistics Management specializing in design and management of the supply chain, especially location of facilities, control of inventory levels, and optimization of transportation systems. Dr. Ballou has published books and articles on Business Logistics Management and serves on the editorial boards of the Journal of Business Logistics and the International Journal of Physical Distribution & Logistics Management.
- John Carroll University: Paul Murphy, PhD?; Professor of Marketing and Logistics: His research interests are in the areas of logistics social responsibility, logistics pedagogy, international logistics and e-logistics. Dr. has published over 90 articles for the Transportation Journal, the Journal of Business Logistics and Industrial Marketing Management and other industry journals. He co-authored a 2002 book titled International Logistics that integrates cultural, functional, and strategic aspects of the organized movement of good, services, and sometimes people in transactions involving individuals or firms in more than one nation.
