The Institute for Open Economic Networks smartWorkspace
The Situation
Global competition and integration requires a new approach to economic development. This new approach will work best if it is regional in scope and grounded in effective habits of collaboration.
At the Center for Regional Economic Issues (REI) we focus on five categories of economic development outlined in the REI Open Source Economic Development model. In each area of investment, we support civic efforts to build social capital - in the form of networks - to accelerate idea creation and collaborations. Learn more about the REI Open Source Economic Development model.
Because of global pressures exerted on regions today - expanding populations, finite natural resources and societal disconnection - we need to work together understanding that everyone has something of value to offer. By learning together, every region will have an opportunity to build creative, sustainable and prosperous economies. We call this StrategicLearning.
REI operates by simple rules of conduct, designs new methods for civic engagement and proofs technology software tools to facilitate innovative thinking, dialogue and align people's passions toward next steps. Learn about the REI ToolBox and how you can apply new tools to your network building.
Strengthening our ability to see the connections SocialNetwork mapping helps us to understand where social capital is invested. The REILandscapeDatabase helps us to identify where private and public investment dollars are spent. By learning where social and financial investments take place, we can qualify intermediary actions needed to accelerate regional strategic learning.
